Bialystok University of Technology implements the Social Responsibility Strategy!

On 29 June 2023 the Senate of Bialystok University of Technology approved the Social Responsibility Strategy of Bialystok University of Technology.
This extremely important document is one of the key elements of the Development Strategy of Bialystok University of Technology for 2021-2024 with the perspective of extension to 2030.
– Bialystok University of Technology, as a leading scientific centre in the north-eastern part of Poland, a recognizable scientific and didactic brand on the map of Polish universities and a partner of many domestic and foreign stakeholders, introduces the Social Responsibility Strategy in order to promote the idea of freedom of science, diversity and freedom of expression of views based on truth, tolerance, human rights and sustainable development – says Assoc. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, DSc, PhD, Eng, Rector of Bialystok University of Technology.
Together with the Rector, we encourage the academic community and external stakeholders (enterprises, universities, local government administration) to support ethical attitudes and promote the idea of sustainable development and social responsibility in the activities of Bialystok University of Technology. Why is this so important?
– The adoption of this strategy indicates how important a factor of development is the use of the highest international standards of social responsibility in all areas of the functioning of the university, especially in the effective management of a modern teaching institution and building friendly and beneficial relations with the environment – explains the Rector.
The decision to prepare the Social Responsibility Strategy of Bialystok University of Technology was a consequence of the Declaration of Social Responsibility of the University signed in 2019, which obliged Bialystok University of Technology to shape attitudes and promote the idea of sustainable development and social responsibility in all areas of its activity.
In order to implement this important mission, the Rector of Bialystok University of Technology appointed Wioletta Czemiel-Grzybowska, PhD as the Rector’s Plenipotentiary for Social Responsibility of Bialystok University of Technology.
In June 2023, consultations of the project were also held, with the participation of employees, students, doctoral students, as well as representatives of companies, universities, local administration.
Work on the preparation of the strategy was also started by a team consisting of representatives of various stakeholder groups. The team defined the social responsibility of the university and formulated the objectives and activities of the Strategy, taking into account the SMART principles. The values that the University will follow include: justice, respect, peace, truth, transparency, decency, responsibility, courage, objectivity, openness, order, safety and decent working conditions, ethical behaviour, ethical education and research, continuity of development, innovation, independence, integrity, innovation.
The plans of the University in the area of social responsibility include, among others, the implementation of a communication system and the study of the needs and expectations of the socio-economic environment of the University in terms of the competences of future employees, as well as the introduction of a transparent system of recruitment and adaptation of employees, which is designed to encourage the best candidates to work at Bialystok University of Technology.
For the purposes of implementing the strategy, a participatory code of ethics for the researcher and a code of ethics for the administration employee will be developed. The activities also include the development of voluntary services among the academic community, as well as the guarantee of free psychological counselling for employees.
The fact that Bialystok University of Technology has a strategy of social responsibility has placed the our institution next to Polish and foreign universities that make efforts to function responsibly in the educational, scientific and social spheres. Bialystok University of Technology is the first university in north-eastern Poland to initiate education and conduct scientific research based on the standards of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.
The University supports the sustainable development of society and the economy, and its strategic social goals are implemented in accordance with the global UN Sustainable Development Goals.
