Assoc. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, DSc, PhD, Eng – Rector of Bialystok University of Technology for the term 2024 – 2028

During her election campaign, Professor Marta Kosior-Kazberuk referred to her electoral programme from four years ago and declared plans to continue the implementation of the Bialystok University of Technology Development Strategy for 2021-2024, initiated in 2021, with a perspective of extending it to 2030. This document was developed with the participation of the entire academic community as well as external stakeholders and became an expression of participatory organization management.
– I feel joy, but also responsibility, – said Rector of Bialystok University of Technology immediately after the election results were announced. – Once again, the academic community of Bialystok University of Technology has entrusted me with their future for four years. It is a large organization, with 7,000 students and almost 1,400 employees. The community has once again decided that I will be their leader.
In the next term, the Rector intends to continue and develop a management model that reflects the nature of the academic community, the policy of openness, and the accessibility of the rector. She wants to introduce further digital solutions to facilitate the University’s operations, as well as to modernize and expand the university’s infrastructure. Partners from the socio-economic environment will play an even more active role, starting from the recruitment of students, through co-creating study programmes, implementing professional internships, up to diploma theses.
– I will continue our current activities and the good solutions we have prepared together with the community, – announces Professor Marta Kosior-Kazberuk. – I hope this will be a period of further dynamic actions at Bialystok University of Technology in line with the expectations of our entire community. I count on the development of our unique scientific specialties, the development of internationalization, the expansion of our educational services, the modernization and expansion of infrastructure, and building the recognition of our university here in the country and also abroad, all with the significant involvement of our entire University community.

The course of the Rector elections at Bialystok University of Technology for the term 2024-2028
Bialystok University of Technology Electoral College, consisting of 100 electors elected from the academic community of Bialystok University of Technology in earlier elections, was entitled to participate in the secret voting. On 6 June, all electors participated in the election, with the current Rector receiving 76 votes of support, and Professor Sławomir Bakier receiving 28 votes.
By Resolution of 15 April 2024, the University Council of Bialystok University of Technology nominated the following candidates for the position of Rector of Bialystok University of Technology: Assoc. Prof. Aleksander Asanowicz, DSc, PhD, Eng, Arch.; Professor Sławomir Bakier, DSc, PhD, Eng; Assoc. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, DSc, PhD, Eng.
On 27 May 2024, the candidates participated in the Student Debate of Candidates for the Rector of Bialystok University of Technology, during which they answered questions from the Student Self-Government of Bialystok University of Technology.
Two days later, on 29 May 2024, Assoc. Prof. Aleksander Asanowicz, DSc, PhD, Eng, Arch. withdrew from the election.
– I am glad that the election campaign is over, – says Rector of Bialystok University of Technology. – Elections are not won through strange, often unethical, aggressive behaviour. One should not lie. Certain academic values should be maintained. There is no need to frighten or threaten anyone because the academic community knows its own and can act for the benefit of the University.
Assoc. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, DSc, PhD, Eng, is a native of Białystok and a graduate of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Bialystok University of Technology. She is the first woman to hold the position of a rector in the 75-year history of the University. Since 2022, she has been the President of the Polish Academic and Economic Forum.
In 2002, she obtained a PhD in technical sciences in the discipline of civil engineering, and in 2014 she became a habilitated doctor. She started working at Bialystok University of Technology in 1995.
From 2005 to 2012, she was the Vice-Dean for Student Affairs and Education at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Bialystok University of Technology, from 2015 to 2020 the Head of the Department of Building Structures at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Sciences at Bialystok University of Technology, from 2016 to 2019 the Vice-Rector for Education and International Cooperation, and from 2019 to 2020 the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation.
Since 1 September 2020, she has served as rector of BUT, the first woman in this position in the history of the university.
Her scientific interests include the durability of concrete structures and innovative solutions in the field of structural reinforcement. She is the author and co-author of nearly 200 scientific publications.
She has supervised 115 engineering and master’s theses. She has taught at several foreign universities.
She has led and participated in projects funded by the National Science Centre, the National Centre for Research and Development, Erasmus+ Strategic Partnerships, and projects by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange. She is active in the Commission for International Cooperation of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland.
Since 2009, she has been an expert at the National Centre for Research and Development; since 2016, an expert at the Polish Accreditation Committee.
From 2012 to 2018, she represented Bialystok University of Technology in the European Civil Engineering Education and Training Association.
In 2018, she was elected to the Administrative Council of the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE).
In 2021, she received the ‘Builder’ award.
In 2022, she became the Vice-Chair of the Administrative Council of the European Network of Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE).
In 2022, she became the President of the Polish Academic and Economic Forum.
In 2023, she received the title of Polish Hercules of ‘Builder Polska’.
In 2024, she was elected President of the Academic Sports Association Białystok Environmental Organization.
