More foreign visitors at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Bialystok University of Technology! Prof. Ping-Hung Yeh from Tamkang University in Taiwan together with two students: Tzu Hung Ma and Mei Yu Chen are carrying out a joint research project with a team led by Izabela Zgłobicka, DSc, PhD, Eng. The project ‘Crossing boundaries on snooping after biogenic materials based on diatoms (CRODIA)’ is funded by NCBR (the National Centre for Research and Development) under the ninth Polish-Taiwanese competition for bilateral research projects.

During their stay, the guests visited the laboratories of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and together with our employees (I. Zgłobicka, DSc, PhD, Eng and J. Augustyniak, PhD) and doctoral student E. Borucińska conducted research.

The visit was a time to discuss the ongoing project and further topics for collaboration. In addition to scientific issues, there was also time for cultural and culinary experiences.

This is not the first time we have seen our partners from the Taiwanese university. In March this year, our scientists made a study visit to Tamkang University, where they were able to present the potential of Bialystok University of Technology, as well as learn about the research capabilities of scientists in Taipei and the technical solutions they use.

The scientific objective of the ongoing project is to conduct in-situ and in-vivo studies of diatoms under varying environmental conditions using electron microscopy. Our researchers, together with scientists and students from Tamkang University, conducted a series of experiments involving the preparation of research material, followed by observations of samples immersed in liquid using a scanning electron microscope.

The innovative research is being conducted in a Polish-Taiwanese consortium: Bialystok University of Technology, University of Szczecin and Tamkang University. The project involves close cooperation including short study visits to the partner countries.

Fingers crossed for the realisation of the project!
