Bialystok University of Technology implements sustainable development strategy called “My Green University”
20-07-2023
Bialystok University of Technology has joined the ranks of ‘ambassadors’ of change for climate protection and natural resources.
As part of the “Development strategy of Bialystok University of Technology for 2021-2024 with the perspective of extension to 2030”, our University has developed and started the process of implementing a sustainable development strategy called “My Green University”.
Activities will be implemented until 2035.
Climate change, air, soil and water pollution, the progressive loss of natural resources, and the loss of biodiversity – the world is facing global challenges. That is why we are redoubling our efforts to protect natural resources by pursuing, among 193 countries, the goals presented at the United Nations General Assembly in 2015.
By the decision of the University authorities and members of the academic community, we have decided to strive for a dynamic transformation of the University towards the training of employees who program and create technological development based on the well-being of our escosystem and climate protection.
The development of the ‘My Green University’ strategy was preceded by an assessment of the state and potential of our university in the context of global environmental challenges. A survey of students, doctoral students, academic staff and university employees was conducted from 21 April to 5 June 2022. We conducted a SWOT analysis and the results allowed us to develop an action plan. These actions stem from social responsibility, but also from concern for the future – ours and that of future generations. They are a continuation of a number of activities that the university has been undertaking for years, transferring technical knowledge, discovering or implementing new technologies with environmental aspects in mind. Our scientists have long been researching and developing both innovations for clean water and renewable energy sources. They are patenting effective methods in the fight against bee diseases, which are so important for local ecosystems, or developing recycled building materials. Our approach is also reflected in fields of study such as eco-power engeneering, environmental engineering and forestry.
We have set priority areas for action, such as education, research, organisation and management. We will implement activities by achieving three operational objectives:
- Personnel for the future
- Green campus
- Environmental footprint
We hope that ‘My Green University’ will become a space for discussion, exchange of experiences and ideas on the creation of a model green campus that can serve as a source of inspiration and good practice for others. The success of the sustainable development strategy depends on the activity of our community. We believe that through joint efforts we will be able to achieve our goal.
The objectives pursued under the sustainability strategy are consistent with the Development Strategy of Bialystok University of Technology for 2021-2024 with the perspective of extension to 2030.
We will keep you informed about the details of the actions taken.
