Doctoral students from Uzbekistan and Italy visited Bialystok University of Technology

– We are very pleased with these visits and the international contacts that have been made thanks to the funding obtained from the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange. Due to the pandemic, the project was suspended for some time, and at the moment we are intensively returning to the planned trips of our staff to partner universities and hosting representatives of foreign centres at our university. This international exchange of young scientists and academic staff takes various forms. These include study visits, such as today’s one, but in the PROM project we also supported the organisation of international summer schools for mycologists, i.e. the International Mushroom Summer School. – said Assoc. Prof. Dorota Anna Krawczyk, DSc, PhD, Eng, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at Bialystok University of Technology.

During their stay at Bialystok University of Technology, eight young scientists from abroad – from the Тashkent Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering in Uzbekistan and the University of Catania in Italy – had the opportunity to learn about the conditions and topics of research conducted by the specialists of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences. They viewed the specialised apparatus used in research projects and teaching, and discussed opportunities for cooperation and support of their research work.

On Thursday, 12 January 2023, we accompanied them on a tour of the studios and laboratories in the Department of HVAC Engineering, where the group was guided by Piotr Rynkowski, PhD, Eng. and Anna Werner-Juszczuk, PhD, Eng.

The study visit participants were particularly interested in the technology of using renewable energy sources. They also established contacts with PhD students of the Doctoral School of Bialystok University of Technology, who are carrying out work related to water protection, environmental engineering systems and RES.

The project ‘International scholarship exchange of PhD candidates and academic staff’ (PPI/PRO/2019/1/00037/U/00001) is implemented by Bialystok University of Technology, under the PROM programme of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), in the period from October 2019 to March 2023. The value of the funding obtained from NAWA is PLN 1,194,130.00.

The main objective of the PROM programme is to improve the competencies of doctoral students and academic staff from Poland and abroad, including those from outside the EU, through international scholarship exchanges. Universities and research units provide scholarships to finance costs related to the participation of doctoral students and academic staff in short forms of education of an international character. Eligible activities under the Programme are trips or visits related to the topic of the doctoral thesis or the teaching and research work carried out.
