East Design Days at the Faculty of Architecture of Bialystok University of Technology! We meet on 17-18 November 2022!

09-11-2022

Inspiring, creative, factual, revelatory, integrative.
What will East Design Days surprise us with this year?
We will find out already on 17-18 November 2022. We are meeting traditionally at the Faculty of Architecture of Bialystok University of Technology, where a two-day “marathon” with architecture, science, art and business awaits us.
This year’s edition will be held under the motto “New Age Architecture”.

The largest meeting of architects, urban planners and designers in north-eastern Poland. East Design Days is a unique event that creates a platform for dialogue, bringing together charismatic personalities, outstanding scientists, great artists and the business community. It engages manufacturers, investors, local government officials, lecturers and students. It feeds minds and souls. It feeds with inspiration, refreshes with trends and provides unique experiences through lectures, exhibitions, presentations, performative activities and workshops.

Year after year, the organisers of East Design Days raise the bar. This year again they have prepared a diverse programme of events.
Participants can look forward to taking part in dynamic debates on beauty, space, contexts, functions and design technologies.
They have the chance to see live the effects of the work of talented students of the Faculty of Architecture of Bialystok University of Technology, as well as to benefit from the knowledge of renowned architects, among whom will be one of our graduates, arch. Michał Czerwiński (from the WXCA studio), co-creator of the Polish Pavilion at the EXPO World Exhibition in Dubai.
The hit of the event will also be the premiere of a work by our students created under the supervision of Rafał Roskowiński, PhD and an artistic performance.

  • Conference “Designing in difficult times”. Event co-organised with the Podlaskie District Chamber of Architects
→ session I. godz. 09:00 – 10:30 – “BIM design, laser scanning and photogrammetry – core technologies of the modern design office”
Moderator: arch. Marcin Marczak – PDOIA President
Speaker: Łukasz Staśkiewicz – Owner and BIM Manager at STAN DESIGN – 3D Scan & BIM – Mrągowo
Panellists: Łukasz Staśkiewicz – Stan Design (Mrągowo), Tomasz Perkowski – Unihouse SA, Norbert Lewko – BIM Ally sp. z o.o.
Topic: You cannot be afraid of modern tools, you need to understand what they are for. OPEN BIM is a database of information for future generations. Our experience and knowledge gained is their baseline. Buildings don’t just have to grow old – they can share valuable information with us if we design them in the right way (especially for city authorities – where it will be possible to accurately calculate investment outlays, minimise collision, and finally observe their operation, which translates into responsible financial management).
Building information modelling is becoming a standard in developed countries.
→ session II. godz. 11:00 – 12:30 – “Local plans and urban development”
Moderator: Adam Jakimowicz, PhD, Eng, Arch., Vice-Dean for Development and Cooperation at the Faculty of Architecture, Bialystok University of Technology, arch. urb. Bartosz Czarnecki

Speaker: Grzegorz Chojnacki, MSc, Arch. (Warsaw) – urban planner, owner of Kanon studio
Panellists: Adam Musiuk, PhD – Vice-President of the City of Białystok, Grzegorz Chojnacki, MSc, Arch. – Kanon (Warsaw), arch. Katarzyna Jabłońska (Suwałki) – Vice President of PDOIA. Graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at Warsaw University of Technology. Urban planner and architect, court expert in spatial planning.
Topics: Lack of local plans caused planning chaos in cities – Can our cities be saved? Creating great conditions for developers has resulted in friendly space for people receding into the background.
→ session III. godz. 13:00 – 14:30 – “How to compete in the architectural market?”
Moderator: Adam Walicki, President of the Kronenberg Institute
Speaker: Tomasz Gawron – Gawrzyński, arch. IARP (Wrocław)
Panellists: arch. Tomasz Gawron – Gawrzyński, arch. Szymon Wojciechowski – APA Wojciechowski (Warsaw), arch. Urszula Gołubowska-Witek – Witek Architekci (Białystok)
Topics: An architectural studio is not only a place of creation, but also a business venture. The turbulent environment prompts us to look for answers to the following questions: what should we compete with, how can we better organise a design studio, what can be the changes in the conditions of practising the architectural profession, how to promote the brand of an architectural studio, how to use PR in building the reputation of an architect and the reputation of his/her studio?
