Bialystok University of Technology in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023

Bialystok University of Technology applied for this ranking for the first time in its history and was immediately ranked in it. Bialystok University of Technology was ranked 1501+. A total of 1,799 universities from 104 countries and regions are ranked. A further 526 HEIs have ‘Reporter’ status, meaning that they provided data but did not meet the requirements to be ranked. There were 34 Polish HEIs ranked in the ranking, with 2 of them having ‘Reporter’ status. The ranking places of Polish HEIs classified in THE ranking are presented below.

First place in the ranking, for the seventh consecutive year, is held by Oxford University. Harvard University remains in second place and the University of Cambridge has jumped from fifth to third place. The highest ranked new university is the University of Humanitas in Italy, ranking 201-250. The United States is the most represented country overall, with 177 institutions, and also the most represented in the top 200 (58 universities). China now has the fourth highest number of institutions in the top 200 (11 compared to 10 last year), ahead of Australia, which has dropped to fifth (along with the Netherlands). Five countries entered the ranking for the first time – all from Africa: Zambia, Namibia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Mauritius. Harvard heads the teaching area, while Oxford leads the research area. At the top of the international area is Macau University of Science and Technology.

The methodology of the ranking is based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across four areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

THE ranking uses the annual academic reputation survey, which forms the basis of the assessment in the areas of teaching and research. It was conducted between November 2021 and March 2022. A wide range of Bialystok University of Technology staff took part in the survey. The reputation survey establishes how the prestige of the institution in teaching and research excellence is perceived among ‘professional colleagues’. The survey was conducted in such a way as to ensure a balanced distribution of responses across disciplines and countries. This year’s ranking analysed over 121 million citations across more than 15.5 million research publications and included survey responses from 40,000 scholars globally. Overall, we collected over 680,000 datapoints from more than 2,500 institutions that submitted data.

The presence of Bialystok University of Technology in international rankings is a hallmark of the university, a symbol of the quality of its research and education, and underlines the prestige of the university.
