Assoc. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, DSc, PhD, Eng, Rector of Bialystok University of Technology, took part in the panel “Education in the times of the fourth industrial revolution” during the Podlasie Economic Forum. Rectors of Białystok’s largest public universities, representatives of business and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education discussed the challenges facing higher education.

It was said that soft skills, such as cooperation, are equally important as technical and specialist competences.

– Our system of education is based on the fact that we give basic and fundamental engineering knowledge. – says Professor Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, Rector of Bialystok University of Technology. – In addition, we try to awaken the spirit of innovation and creativity in our students. To open their minds to new ideas. And these new ideas, especially technical solutions, are created in teams, so we have teamwork. Secondly, you create for people, so we have empathy and an outlook on the needs of the environment.

Vice-Rector for Education at the Medical University of Bialystok, prof. Adrian Chabowski, MD, PhD emphasises that Industry 4.0 is firmly in place at universities, but is challenging.

– If we look at the research we do at the Medical University, it is related to artificial intelligence, digitisation, computerisation. This is a challenge for the academic staff, because in order to teach a student properly, the assistant should first know the programme and be able to correct it. – says Prof Adrian Chabowski.

Investing in and learning technologies is important, but using them in business is the most crucial.

– Meetings of science and business are necessary to show in which direction we should go and what actions we should take to use those scientific solutions faster in business – says Professor Robert Ciborowski, rector of the University of Bialystok.
