– Being elected President of the Board of the Polish Higher Education-Business Forum is an exceptional distinction and a proof of trust of both the academic community and representatives of business, who care about effective cooperation with universities, as it is one of the conditions for the development of the economy – says Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk. – The Forum is a unique platform for meetings between universities and business, because nowadays cooperation with the socio-economic environment is crucial for the development of both science and education.
Members of the PFAG are people who manage business entities and rectors of public and private universities.
– The Forum is a meeting of rectors and presidents, owners of enterprises – people responsible for the strategy and directions of development of the organisations they manage – explains Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk. – At the same time, these are people who have the power to implement jointly developed solutions, which definitely improves the effectiveness of actions taken.
The new President of the Polish Higher Education-Business Forum intends to continue the existing joint ventures of universities and business, such as the Higher Education and Business Forums, the activity of the Centre for Cooperation of University Boards, cooperation with the Polish Bank Association under the 2025+ Club, and education profiling.
– I am keen to consolidate the existing, effective forms of cooperation, as well as to look for new ones, to exchange experiences and good practices – declares Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk. – It is important to use the experience and commitment of people who have been active members of the PFAG for many years. Hence, the proposal that the position of Vice-President of the PFAG Board be taken by Krzysztof Pietraszkiewicz, President of the Polish Bank Association, and that the Board also include Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Andrzej Graboś, President of the Board of POLMOTORS and Artur Pollak, President of APA Group.
The Association of the Polish Higher Education-Business Forum was established to build mutual understanding and ties between the academic and economic communities. The Forum stimulates research programmes aimed at the needs of the economy and supports universities conducting such research.
Members of the Forum include business leaders and rectors of public and private universities. Similar associations have been operating worldwide for several decades, and the Forum’s founder, Professor Marek Dietrich, was inspired primarily by the American Business Higher-Education Forum. The Polish Higher Education-Business Forum has about 40 members, maintaining the principle of equal representation of the academic and business communities. A number of prominent figures from both circles have passed through the ranks of the Forum over the years.
Over the quarter of a century of the PFAG’s activity, when both organisations grouping economic circles and organisations representing the academic community have developed and are thriving, the Forum has become a neutral platform for dialogue between heads of economic organisations and rectors of universities. The PFAG expresses and develops common opinions of both circles not only on economic and academic matters, but also on other issues of crucial importance for the future of the country. Some of the topics discussed at the Forum’s conferences include: innovation, technology transfer and commercialisation of research results, employers’ expectations of graduates, the country’s energy security, administrative, pension and higher education reforms, and many others.
The Forum organises conferences, seminars and debates on matters important to both communities and prepares reports on selected issues. Examples of such reports include: “Polish education at the turn of the century. The system of education in Poland in the opinion of business circles”, “Climate for American economic investment in Poland”, or the “Dictionary of Dialogue”, developed in cooperation with the Business Center Club, analysing differences in understanding of concepts in the field of innovation in enterprises, universities, and state administration.
A major project carried out by the association is the creation of the Centre for Cooperation of University Boards (OWRU) – operating within the PFAG from 2020. The OWRU has already hosted more than a dozen debates with representatives of ministries on issues key to the operation of this new body within the university structure.
