On 31 March 2022, the official joining of the coalition of representatives of Polish universities for the organisation of WorldSkills and EuroSkills Competition 2023 in Poland took place.
The ceremony of joining the coalition of new signatories – Jagiellonian University, Kozminski University, Lodz University of Technology, Cracow University of Technology, Lublin University of Technology and Bialystok University of Technology – took place during the conference “Interstudent 2022”, which is organized by the Perspektywy Education Foundation in Wroclaw.
– Each university will be able to show its potential, contribute to the development of a given industry not only in the country, but also in Europe, show itself to various foreign partners, so this cooperation reflects the win-win model, which means that everyone will benefit here, everyone will win – said Paweł Poszytek, PhD, Director General of the Foundation for the Development of the Education System, the official WorldSkills Poland delegate.
Paweł Poszytek, PhD pointed out that the universities that are joining the coalition will take patronage of individual events in EuroSkills and WorldSkills competitions – the next World Championships will take place in October 2022 in Shanghai.
Following WorldSkills Europe’s recent decision to relocate the event away from the Russian Federation, where it was originally scheduled to be held in St Petersburg in August 2023, WorldSkills Europe has approached Germany, Luxembourg and Poland about hosting EuroSkills Competition 2023 in their respective countries. These countries had previously expressed their intention to bid to host the EuroSkills Competition 2027 (Germany and Luxembourg submitted a joint bid for 2027). The decision to invite Poland to submit a bid to host the event was made in accordance with the internal procedures for selecting future hosts of the EuroSkills Competition.
All parties agreed that WorldSkills Poland is currently the best candidate to take on such a huge challenge as hosting the EuroSkills Competition 2023 in such a short period of time.
WorldSkills Germany and WorldSkills Luxembourg fully support WorldSkills Poland’s decision to accelerate its bid to host EuroSkills Competition 2023.
WorldSkills Europe has expressed its sincere gratitude to WorldSkills Poland for its support and commitment to bringing Europe’s largest skills and vocational training event to Poland.
WorldSkills Poland’s bid to host the EuroSkills Competition 2023 will be ratified by the WorldSkills Europe General Assembly at its meeting in Kraków in June 2022.
The WorldSkills Competition alternates every 2 years with EuroSkills Competition. The first EuroSkills Competition took place in 2008, in 2023 the 8th edition will be held. The best young representatives from each industry in six professional areas take part in the competitions:
- Information and Communication Technology
- Manufacturing and Engineering
- Construction Technology
- Transport and Logistics
- Social and Personal Services
- Art and Fashion
The competitions are open to the most talented students, winners of school competitions and other industry competitions, aged 18-25 (EuroSkills) or 18-22 (WorldSkills). Each country may enter only one participant/team to compete in a given edition. A participant may represent a country only once in a given discipline in all competitions.
The exact date and city of the relocated EuroSkills Competition 2023 has not yet been confirmed. Further details will be released in the near future.
