Study, discover, travel! Encouraging participation at Erasmus Days and the Across Students’ Fair at Bialystok University of Technology

Studying at a European university, gaining invaluable experience and enjoying the adventure of a lifetime are within reach. This year’s celebrations of the international Erasmus+ Programme festival and the Across Students’ Fair showed Bialystok University of Technology students how easy it is to open the door to an international career.

From the faculties to the Centre for Modern Education

The October series of Erasmus Days meetings at Bialystok University of Technology began on 12 October 2026 at the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Engineering Management. Students flocked to pick up practical tips on how to plan a semester abroad efficiently. The sheer range of partner institutions to choose from was enough to fire their imagination.

– Italy and Portugal are interesting destinations where, thanks to their wealth of architecture and very high teaching standards, our students can gain the most in terms of design. Türkiye is also worth mentioning: it too offers high standards and an extraordinary wealth of ancient architecture, – recommended Katarzyna Woszczenko, MSc, Eng., Arch., Erasmus+ Programme Coordinator at the Faculty of Architecture.

At the Faculty of Engineering Management, meanwhile, there was a strong emphasis on the professional and labour market aspects of these visits.

– Taking part in Erasmus+ can certainly help students find work. If an employer sees on a student’s CV that they have done more than simply study – here we mean participating in a traineeship or studying abroad – it will be a major advantage and a tremendous benefit in terms of their position in the labour market, – emphasised Dariusz Surel, PhD, Erasmus+ Programme Coordinator at the Faculty of Engineering Management.

Paweł Zabielski, MSc, Eng., Erasmus+ Programme Coordinator at the Faculty of Computer Science, also explained how going abroad translates into specific skills valued in the labour market:

– A student from the Faculty of Computer Science who goes on Erasmus gains a great deal: improved technical language skills, which are essential in IT, the ability to work in an international team, and valuable experience of learning about cultures and teaching methods at other universities abroad. This will undoubtedly be an excellent addition to their CV, – said Paweł Zabielski.

On 15 October, the Across Students’ Fair was held at the BUT Centre for Modern Education, combined with Erasmus Days for the faculties on the BUT campus. Participants could not only learn about the application procedures, but also discover first-hand the wide range of opportunities offered by the institutions forming the Across European University. The 9 member universities (including Bialystok University of Technology) were presented by participants in the international 3-day ‘Across Culture in Cooperation Workshop’, organised under the NAWA project ‘Together towards excellence – Bialystok University of Technology in the activities of the Across alliance-PBAcross’ and the ‘Support for European Universities’ programme.

The event’s extensive programme combined information with an inspiring exchange of experience. It opened with a presentation on the Erasmus+ Programme’s rules entitled ‘How do I get started?’, delivered by Małgorzata Zdrodowska, MA, Erasmus+ Programme Coordinator at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (outgoing students). Immediately afterwards, Erasmus participants from Bialystok University of Technology shared personal memories and impressions of their exchanges in the session ‘Is it really worth it?’. Katarzyna Kochaniak (Erasmus+ Innovation Centre InnHub Białystok) showed that there are many more opportunities for development in her presentation ‘Erasmus is not everything! – other opportunities’, while Grażyna Jakimiuk (BUT International Relations Offices) outlined the network’s concept and aims in ‘A few words about Across’. International guests then presented the perspectives of partner institutions in the session ‘Discover Across Universities Through the Students’ Eyes’.

Erasmus? It’s easier than you think!

An international exchange is available to every active student. What is more, in the latest QS World University Rankings: Europe 2026, Bialystok University of Technology ranked 1st in Poland for internationalisation, in both outbound and inbound student mobility.

Marta Orpik, MA, Head of the Erasmus+ and NAWA International Projects Office, explained how easy it is to turn dreams into action:

– What matters most is willingness. The route to becoming an Erasmus student is very simple: we start with language assessment, then choose the university we want to go to and the courses that interest us, and after that all that remains is to pack our bags, – encouraged Marta Orpik. – During this year’s Erasmus Days, we are promoting not only the European Union’s general programme but also the Across alliance and the opportunities that Bialystok University of Technology students gain through our cooperation with partners.

Every selected student can count on reliable financial support. The basic Erasmus+ grant is EUR 670 per month, providing an excellent foundation for exploring Europe with financial security. Students receiving a maintenance grant at Bialystok University of Technology are entitled to an additional EUR 250 per month.

Impressive statistics

Interest in academic mobility at BUT continues to grow, and last year’s figures speak for themselves. In 2025/2026, 516 people (including students, doctoral students and university staff) went abroad. Bialystok University of Technology welcomed 868 visitors from abroad, while 161 participants took part in summer schools on the BUT campus. Altogether, almost 1,550 people benefited from international mobility!

What’s next?

The October celebration of mobility is gradually drawing to a close, but the excitement is showing no sign of fading. For those who would like to experience the distinctive atmosphere of another culture without leaving Białystok, Italian Day will take place tomorrow (16 October) at the BUT Centre for Modern Education, bringing the autumn series of meetings promoting the Erasmus+ Programme to a spectacular close.
