The event has already established its own tradition. The first edition took place in 2017 and brought together 24 students from Poland, Lithuania and Spain. Since then, the initiative has grown steadily, with an increasing number of participants, international partners and thematic pathways. Today, the Bialystok University of Technology International Summer School is a well-established event attracting students from Europe, Asia, Australia, and both North and South America.
– We started with a small group of students and a single idea – to create a space for developing competences through collaborative work in international teams. Today, we can say that this idea has truly come to fruition, – emphasises Assoc. Prof. Dorota Krawczyk, DSc, PhD, Eng., Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Coordinator of the Bialystok University of Technology International Summer School. – Each year we introduce new thematic pathways, engage additional international partners, and demonstrate that internationalisation is, above all, about people, cooperation and mutual inspiration. It is one of the initiatives of which we are particularly proud as a university.
In 2026, three courses will be delivered as part of the Bialystok University of Technology International Summer School at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences, focusing on sustainable construction, energy efficiency, and the resilience of cities and buildings to today’s climate challenges. Together, they will bring together 81 students from more than a dozen countries and 10 international lecturers.
– From the very beginning, our classes combine theory with practice. Students analyse real-life problems and learn how to design solutions for sustainable construction. It is an experience that no traditional lecture theatre can replace, – says Beata Biernacka, PhD, Eng., who is responsible for one of the thematic pathways.
– The Summer School gives participants the opportunity to experience different ways of thinking, communicating and working in teams, which are now essential competences for engineers, – adds Dorota Gawryluk, PhD, Eng., Arch., who coordinates another of the courses.
This year’s edition of the Bialystok University of Technology International Summer School is delivered with the support of NAWA programmes (three thematic pathways – SPINAKER, Spinaker 2 and Support for European Universities) and the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (two thematic pathways – BIP1 and BIP2).
The Bialystok University of Technology International Summer School 2026 comprises the following courses:
International Interdisciplinary Summer School ‘Energy-efficient, user-friendly and environmentally friendly construction_2’ (‘Międzynarodowa Interdyscyplinarna Szkoła Letnia – Budownictwo energooszczędne, przyjazne użytkownikom i środowisku_2’)
Duration: 2–11 July 2026
Participants: 34 students from universities in Spain, Italy, Lithuania, Australia, Türkiye and Poland, together with 6 international lecturers from Italy, Spain and France.
The course is organised by the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences under the SPINAKER – Intensive International Education Programmes programme, financed by the European Union under the European Funds for Social Development 2021–2027 (FERS) as part of the NAWA project ‘Support for the Creation and Implementation of International Education Programmes’ (Project No. BPI/SPI/2024/1/00018).

Effective Solutions for Sustainable Buildings in Cities / ACROSS – Cross-border European University

Physical Activity ‘Why Sit When You Can Exercise?’ (‘Aktywność fizyczna: ‘Po co siedzieć, skoro można ćwiczyć?”)

Participants: 36 students from eight countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Lithuania, Portugal, Slovenia and Türkiye, together with 3 international lecturers from Greece and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The course is organised by the Faculty of Engineering Management under the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP).

Biometrics and Artificial Intelligence: Security and Modern Challenges
consisting of three thematic modules: Fundamentals of Biometric Systems, Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence in Biometrics.

Participants: 45 students from Türkiye, France, Portugal, Italy, Colombia, India, Greece, Lithuania, El Salvador, Romania and Spain, together with 8 international lecturers from India, Japan, Canada, the USA, Italy and South Korea.
The course is organised by the Faculty of Computer Science under the SPINAKER – Intensive International Education Programmes programme, financed by the European Union under the European Funds for Social Development 2021–2027 (FERS) as part of the NAWA project ‘Support for the Creation and Implementation of International Education Programmes’ (Project No. BPI/SPI/2024/1/00015).
