Shared experiments in university laboratories, breaking language barriers, exchange of scientific experience, and above all – new international friendships. Students of the Academic Secondary School of Białystok University of Technology (ALO PB) and their peers from the German partner school Realschule plus in Kirn had a unique opportunity for integration. Within the MINT project, they combined the world of STEM sciences with a cultural adventure.

In the period of 17–22 May 2026, the Academic Secondary School of Białystok University of Technology hosted a group of students from Realschule plus in Kirn (western Germany). This is already the fourth school from this country with which ALO PB has established cooperation within the MINT project, supported by the Foundation for Polish-German Youth Cooperation.

Thanks to this visit, young people from both countries were able to:

  • experience science at the highest level: students conducted research and had the opportunity to become familiar with modern equipment at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Białystok University of Technology
  • gain unique competences: joint experiments and work in international groups resulted in a natural breaking of language barriers
  • discover the beauty of Podlasie: guests from Germany, together with ALO PB students, gained insight into the history, traditions and unique cuisine of multicultural Podlasie. They visited Białystok, the charming Tykocin, and the picturesque Supraśl. An unforgettable experience was a close encounter with European bison in Kopna Góra.

The main pillar of the Polish-German project was education. Students explored the research potential of the Białystok University of Technology, working closely with academic staff and students from student scientific associations. Additionally, the young participants took part in language workshops specially prepared for them by lecturers from the Foreign Language Centre, Białystok University of Technology.

Outside the hours spent in laboratories, the foreign delegation, under the supervision of Julia Beck and Philip Gehres, was officially received by representatives of the university and regional authorities:

  • Katarzyna Halicka – Vice-Rector for Education of the Białystok University of Technology
  • Łukasz Prokorym – Marshal of the Podlaskie Voivodeship
  • Tadeusz Truskolaski – President of the City of Białystok
  • Mariusz Dudziński – Mayor of Tykocin
