On 22 April 2024, the spring edition of the International Staff Week began at Bialystok University of Technology. This is the 12th edition of a cyclical event aimed at strengthening existing international relations and building new ones.

The participants of the International Staff Week are representatives of foreign universities: rectors, academic teachers and employees of international cooperation offices from universities from Algeria, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Guyana, Spain, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Nigeria, Romania, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan. During their week-long stay at Bialystok University of Technology, they will be able to get acquainted with the specifics of our university, the offered fields of study and conditions of study here, as well as research areas developed by scientists from BUT. The programme of the event also includes cultural tours around the region.

– We have 23 guests representing universities from 15 countries, including exotic ones such as Guyana, Bolivia, Indonesia, Nigeria and Uzbekistan. We have planned events for them for the whole week. We start with a meeting with the authorities of Bialystok University of Technology. Later, we have a meeting with the President of Bialystok and a tour of the most interesting monuments of our city. For the next days, we planned project meetings, workshops, presentations of projects implemented by foreign partner universities, but also projects conducted by our university. Most of the participants of this year’s International Staff Week are representatives of academic staff, we take advantage of this and invite our students and employees to a whole series of lectures presented by our guests. International Staff Week is an event promoting not only our university, but also the region. So we offered our guests a visit to the Museum of Icons and the Monastery in Supraśl. We will finish our event on Friday. – says Magdalena Kadłubowska from the Mobility and International Agreements Unit of Bialystok University of Technology.

The aim of the International Staff Week is to exchange thoughts, experiences and ideas to support the mobility of students and staff of academic centres from around the world. During the meeting, new ideas for cooperation are born. Participants discuss best educational practices, exchange contacts. After a week’s stay in Białystok, after returning to their home universities, they become ambassadors of Bialystok University of Technology and recommend it to their students.
<blockquote– International Staff Week primarily serves to maintain contacts with partner universities. Here we create a valuable space for interpersonal contacts, which in the future translate into joint interuniversity and international projects. During the International Staff Week, thematic scopes are agreed in the field of didactics, development of science or academic exchange, in which we include mobility carried out by lecturers and students. There are many benefits of organising such events on both sides – emphasises the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Assoc. Prof. Dorota Anna Krawczyk, DSc, PhD, Eng.

The official opening ceremony of the 12th International Staff Week at Bialystok University of Technology was attended by:

  • Zofia Sawicka, PhD, Deputy Director of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA).
  • Beata Skibińska from the Foundation for the Development of the Education System (FRSE).

Both institutions play a huge role in activities related to the internationalisation of Bialystok University of Technology.

– Your university is doing great in this area. I personally meet the Rector during various meetings related to the internationalisation of Polish universities and I know that this is an extremely important aspect of the development of the university. Bialystok University of Technology effectively applies for and implements projects financed by Nawa, including from the “Welcome to Poland” and “Spinnaker” budgets. It is an active participant in internationalisation – said Zofia Sawicka, PhD.

<blockquote– I know Bialystok University of Technology as a university that was one of the first to join the Erasmus programme, currently Erasmus+. It is a very active institution and willing to take advantage of the opportunities that the Erasmus programme creates. I am convinced that the story of the Erasmus programme will never end. It enters its subsequent phases, which take into account new solutions, new ideas for supporting mobility. All this in order to support universities in developing international cooperation more and more effectively through the co-financing offered in the programme. I am glad that Bialystok University of Technology is one of the universities that has built an extensive network of domestic and foreign contacts over the years and takes full advantage of the opportunity offered by the Erasmus+ programme for the benefit of its students and employees – emphasises Beata Skibińska from the FRSE.
