On 22–26 March 2026, representatives of the scientific and business communities from the Podlaskie Voivodeship took part in a study visit to Lisbon. Bialystok University of Technology was represented by Prof. Jolanta Pauk, DSc, PhD, Eng.
The main point of the programme was participation in the international BIO-Europe Spring conference — one of the most important events in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry in Europe. The participants took part in numerous meetings, thematic sessions and B2B discussions, which facilitated networking and the exchange of experience.
During the visit, the delegation also visited Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, where meetings were held with heads of laboratories working, among others, on nanomedicine, biosensors, structural biology and drug discovery. Scientists from Podlasie, including a representative of Bialystok University of Technology, presented their research projects, and the discussions focused on opportunities for future international cooperation.
The delegation also visited Taguspark — one of the largest technology parks in Portugal, bringing together companies and start-ups operating in the fields of medicine, biology and chemistry. The meeting provided an opportunity to learn about the local innovation ecosystem and models of cooperation between science and business.
The delegation included scientists and representatives of companies from the medical and life sciences sectors, and was led by Wiesława Burnos, Vice-Marshal of the Podlaskie Voivodeship responsible for health. During the meetings, the potential of the Podlaskie region in the development of innovative medical and biotechnological technologies was emphasised.
The visit was carried out as part of a project co-financed by the European Funds for Podlaskie programme.
