From sunny Belize and Egypt to Kazakhstan and France – on 11 March 2026, Bialystok University of Technology welcomed a new group of international students. Nearly 300 students from 20 countries around the world will begin the summer semester at the University.

Record level of internationalisation

The scale of international student presence at Bialystok University of Technology is impressive. A total of 141 new Erasmus+ students have just joined those continuing their studies in the 2025/2026 summer semester. This means that nearly 300 students from 20 countries will be studying across all faculties this semester.
The group includes students from:

  • Europe: Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Greece, Romania, Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina,
  • Africa: Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria, Morocco, Mozambique, South Africa, Mauritius, Zimbabwe,
  • Asia and Central America: Kazakhstan and Belize.

Support that goes beyond administration

The Welcome Dinner is not just about official handshakes, but above all a substantial dose of practical information. International students took part in sessions delivered by the Border Guard and the Police, and also learned about accommodation rules in the student residence halls of Bialystok University of Technology.

However, the greatest support for newcomers is the Welcome Centre. As emphasised by Marta Orpik, MA, from the Department of International Projects Erasmus+ and NAWA:

– We promote the activities of the University’s Welcome Centre, which supports students not only administratively. Our six-person team helps resolve adaptation, integration and social issues that may arise at the intersection of different cultures. We are available both online and face-to-face – says Marta Orpik.

The Welcome Centre at Bialystok University of Technology is located in section C of the University’s main administration building at 45A Wiejska Street.

To meet with the office staff, please visit between 9:00 and 14:00, Monday to Friday. It is also advisable to make an appointment via the online form.

Student residence halls – a school of integration

Bialystok University of Technology provides its international students with comfortable accommodation in student residence halls, while also fostering international integration. As explained by Beata Cackowska, Head of the Service Centre for Residents of the University Residential Campus:

– We try not to group students of the same nationality in one place. We accommodate them across all residence halls, which is the best form of integration. Interestingly, we also host Erasmus students from the Medical University of Białystok and the University of Białystok – says Beata Cackowska.

The biggest challenge for international students? It turns out it is not the language barrier (all staff at the student residence halls speak English), but rather… Polish office hours. However, the University responds to these needs by offering flexibility and full support in matters ranging from health insurance to residence legalisation.

Flavours of Podlasie and “Integration Action 2.0”

The Welcome Dinner at Bialystok University of Technology concluded with a traditional Polish lunch, but this is only the beginning of the culinary and cultural experiences awaiting international students. As part of the “Integration Action 2.0” project (funded by NAWA under the Welcome to Poland programme), they will take part in:

  • culinary workshops: learning to make pierogi, bake potato babka and prepare traditional Easter żurek soup,
  • regional trips: discovering the cultural diversity of Podlasie in Tykocin (Jewish culture), Kruszyniany (Tatar culture), Supraśl (Orthodox culture) and Białowieża,
  • events organised in cooperation with the Erasmus Student Network: Erasmus Local Games, the Oscars Gala and the BUT Cup sports tournament

Welcome Dinner 2026 showed that Bialystok University of Technology is not only about buildings and laboratories, but above all about people who create an open and diverse community.

Welcome to Poland, welcome to BUT!
