Bialystok University of Technology Receives Nearly PLN 1.5 Million in NAWA Funding for the Development of the European University Across

Thanks to the funding granted by NAWA, Bialystok University of Technology will implement a project entitled “Together Towards Excellence – Bialystok University of Technology in the Activities of the Across Alliance – PBAcross”. It includes a wide range of initiatives aimed at deepening collaboration among the universities forming the consortium. In addition to Bialystok University of Technology – the largest technical university in the north-eastern region of Poland – the Across European University alliance includes academic institutions from nine countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, France, Spain, Germany, Romania, Slovenia, Italy, and Ukraine (an associated university in Lviv).
Under the project, staff and doctoral students from Bialystok University of Technology will take part in mobilities to partner universities within the Across alliance. The university will also host an international scientific conference and a summer school, and prepare joint scientific publications authored by researchers from partner institutions. As a result of the project, 68 academic teachers from BUT, 16 from partner institutions, and 48 students will enhance their skills and qualifications.
Key activities of the project include:
- 24 research staff internships at partner universities (including the University of Perpignan, University of Udine, University of Girona, University of Banja Luka, University of Ruse, University of Nova Gorica, Chemnitz University of Technology, and University of Craiova);
- 18 study visits of BUT staff to Across partner universities (including France, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Spain, Slovenia, Italy, Germany, and Bulgaria);
- Participation of 9 BUT academic teachers in international scientific conferences;
- Preparation of 24 open-access scientific publications in collaboration with alliance partners;
- Development of 30 teaching packages – 20 for regular classes and 10 for the Summer School;
- Organisation of an international scientific conference at BUT with the participation of Across partners;
- Participation of 48 students from partner universities and 8 teachers in the Summer School held at Bialystok University of Technology.
The project “Together Towards Excellence – Bialystok University of Technology in the Activities of the Across Alliance – PBAcross” will be implemented from 1 October 2025 to 31 May 2027 by the Department of International Projects Erasmus+ and NAWA. The financial support of PLN 1,489,638.10 comes from the European Union under the NAWA project “Support for the Alliances of European Universities”, number FERS.01.05-IP.08-0219/23 (FERS Projects).
The Across alliance – European University for Cross-Border Knowledge Sharing – brings together 10 European universities: 9 full partners from Banja Luka, Bialystok, Chemnitz, Craiova, Girona, Nova Gorica, Perpignan, Udine, and Ruse, as well as an associated partner from Lviv. The network includes small and medium-sized universities located in mid-sized cities in cross-border regions. It is united by a long-term strategy in education and the promotion of European values. Its goal is to increase the mobility of students, academic staff, and researchers, and to support quality, inclusion, and competitiveness in European higher education.
