The aim of the Webometrics Ranking is to increase the online presence of universities and research institutions and to encourage researchers to showcase the actual scope of their activities on the Internet. The assessment includes, among others, communication between researchers (through online publications and knowledge repositories), Open Access initiatives, and the visibility of university websites. The ranking methodology takes into account three criteria: Visibility (web content, impact), Transparency / Openness (most cited researchers), and Excellence (most cited documents, papers, publications).
