Bialystok University of Technology among the Leaders in Sustainable Development. Significant Rise in UI GreenMetric 2025!

09-12-2025
Bialystok University of Technology has been ranked in the UI GreenMetric ranking for the third time. In this year’s edition, it moved up two positions nationally, achieving an excellent 4th place in Poland and 339th globally — a rise of 94 places compared to last year! BUT also improved its overall score, gaining 585 points more than in the previous edition. This is a clear result of the consistent implementation of the “My Green University” strategy and the University’s engagement in initiatives supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals and European Commission programs.

In this year’s edition, only 13 Polish universities were ranked (2 fewer than last year), along with a record number of 1,745 higher education institutions worldwide (268 more than in the previous edition). Bialystok University of Technology is once again the only university in this ranking representing the Podlasie region.

It is worth noting that BUT achieved excellent results compared to other Polish universities in individual criteria:

The UI GreenMetric ranking is one of the most influential and respected assessments evaluating higher education institutions on their sustainable development activities. The ranking analyzes the extent to which universities implement eco-friendly strategies and actively engage in building responsible, environmentally friendly infrastructure. The assessment includes, among others: campus organization and planning, energy efficiency, use of renewable energy sources, water and waste management, transport solutions reducing emissions, and initiatives aimed at combating climate change. The ranking also takes into account the universities’ educational and research activities in the field of ecology and sustainable development, emphasizing their role as institutions shaping pro-environmental awareness and behaviors.

This year’s ranking was again topped by Wageningen University & Research (Kingdom of the Netherlands). The next positions on the podium went to University College Cork and Nottingham Trent University (both located in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland).

We thank everyone who helps build our international reputation and contributes to our presence in such a prestigious ranking as UI GreenMetric!
