Bialystok University of Technology presented students with a wide range of opportunities offered by participation in the ACROSS European University. During the ACROSS Student’s Fair Day, held on 21 November 2025, participants learned about the alliance’s educational offer, including forms of mobility, study programmes available online, study visits and summer schools. The event was organised as part of task 2.3 of the project concerning ‘Cross-border educational experience – mobility across borders and sectors.’ The meeting was held both on-site and online, with the participation of partner universities from Spain, Germany, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The meeting was opened by Assoc. Prof. Dorota Anna Krawczyk, DSc, PhD, Eng, BUT coordinator of ACROSS. Then, Grażyna Jakimiuk, MA, an employee of the ACROSS office at BUT, introduced students to the key principles of the alliance – from the possibility of taking part in online classes to short-term and long-term mobility formats.

The programme also included presentations by partner universities:

  • University of Girona (Spain)
  • Chemnitz University of Technology (Germany)
  • University of Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

BUT students had the opportunity to hear reports from study visits to Banja Luka and to the Italian university in Udine, as well as to watch a film summarising the International Summer School 2025 at Bialystok University of Technology.

Students on their experiences

One of the key elements of the ACROSS Student’s Fair Day was conversations with students who had already taken advantage of the opportunities offered by ACROSS.

– Taking part in the summer school classes was an intensive learning programme, with lectures delivered by researchers from many countries. The most interesting one was a lecture on green roofs by a lecturer from Argentina – says Natalia Pietruczuk, a landscape architecture student who took part in this year’s edition of the summer school at BUT.
She emphasises that participating in the programme is not only about learning, but also about language and cultural development:
– I come to the conclusion that language is not a barrier. It is enough to know English and you can communicate with everyone.

Sebastian Trocki, also a landscape architecture student, talks about the practical dimension of the classes. – During the summer school we worked on projects related to sustainable design of public spaces.

As he adds, the ACROSS Alliance increases access to European educational experiences. – Students from Białystok can get to know different cultures and do not have to go abroad to improve their language skills and discover the methods used at other universities.

A report from a study visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina was also shared by Andrzej Dudziński, PhD, from the Faculty of Architecture. – It was a fantastic experience, something we still remember today. The contacts we made are already bearing fruit and will continue to do so in the future – he emphasises.

‘This offer is a big wow’ The ACROSS programme from the coordinator’s perspective

In the second part of the meeting, Dorota Gawryluk, PhD discussed in detail the importance of BUT’s membership in the ACROSS alliance.

– This joint educational offer is a big “wow”, because our students will have the opportunity to very easily benefit from the educational offer of the other universities of the alliance – she underlined.

As she added, the opportunities for students are extremely broad – from online lectures and summer schools to the possibility of completing entire courses with ECTS recognition also at BUT. Gawryluk also reminded students that mobilities are already underway. – This year saw the first ACROSS summer school, and students took part in study visits to Banja Luka and Udine.

A new stage in the internationalisation of Bialystok University of Technology

The ACROSS Student’s Fair Day concluded with a quiz on the alliance, and the organisers announced further events on mobility and international cooperation. Bialystok University of Technology emphasises that participation in ACROSS is a key step towards even greater internationalisation of the university and its students.
