The Recreational Student Culture Zone for students of Bialystok University of Technology is a green area next to the University’s student residence halls. The relaxation and integration area was designed by students of the landscape architecture study programme at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences of Bialystok University of Technology.

The new Recreational Student Culture Zone for students of Bialystok University of Technology was created with the University’s students in mind. The students themselves developed its concept, creating a space for small-group meetings, which will be available not only to students but also to University staff. The conceptual design of the pavilions and the surroundings of the zone was developed by students of the landscape architecture study programme at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences of Bialystok University of Technology: Dominika Bielawska, Karolina Radwańska, Patrycja Dzieniszewska and Kamila Mościcka.

– When designing this area, we had to take into account existing elements, such as tall trees – explains Dominika Bielawska. – We had to adapt them to our design, just like the hill and the slopes. Attention also had to be paid to the existing technical infrastructure, which influenced, among other things, the placement of lighting in the pavilions.

In the Recreational Student Culture Zone for students of Bialystok University of Technology, with a partially paved surface, there are steel pavilions and barbecue stations. The area is illuminated, accessible during the day and in the evening, surrounded by light fencing, and soon the pavilions will be covered with previously planted vegetation. The place is also accessible to persons with special needs.

– For us, students, this is a very important place where we can meet, talk, play games or even organise a small picnic – says Kacper Chrost, a second-year student of computer science and econometrics at the Faculty of Computer Science of Bialystok University of Technology, from the Bialystok University of Technology Student Self-Government. – The opening of this place can contribute to the development of student culture.

Students are pleased with the location of the new meeting spot.

– It is very close to the student residence halls – says Karolina Ledniowska, a fourth-year student of applied mathematics at the Faculty of Computer Science of Bialystok University of Technology, from the BUT SSG. – It is very important that this is a green area belonging to our University. In the summer season, when the trees bloom, it will be truly beautiful here.

The Recreational Student Culture Zone for students of Bialystok University of Technology has been created on the campus thanks to cooperation and the exchange of ideas.

– It was a close cooperation with the University authorities and long talks about what our zone should look like and how to fit into the strategy of the University, including “My Green University” – says Szymon Podziewski, Eng., chairman of the BUT SSG. – We took part in selecting the concept of the pavilions. In the final version, it was possible to combine the best ideas from the students.

The Recreational Student Culture Zone for students of Bialystok University of Technology is important for everyday academic life. It is a space significant for the integration of the academic community.

– It is a place for rest and meetings in a friendly atmosphere – adds Szymon Podziewski. – I believe that in the spring it will truly come to life, becoming a place where students spend time, talk, cook together and simply be with one another.

The Recreational Student Culture Zone for students of Bialystok University of Technology is another stage in the transformation of the University campus.

– The zone was created as a project by students, and they will be its hosts – emphasises Assoc. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, DSc, PhD, Eng, Rector of Bialystok University of Technology. – In the spring, the roofs will turn green and students will plant more vegetation. This area fits perfectly into the strategy of the green campus of Bialystok University of Technology. The opening of the zone is connected with the WINGS PB project addressed to all students of our University, regardless of faculty or year of study.

A corner of the campus’s green area is to become a new place for forming relationships.

– The zone will be an oasis of friendship, a place of cooperation – explains Mateusz Adaszczyk, President of the Alumni Association of Bialystok University of Technology and Head of the Career Development and Alumni Relations Office of Bialystok University of Technology. – It is here that the younger, newly arrived students will meet the older, experienced ones. – The pavilions allow shelter from unpredictable weather. Thanks to the WINGS PB project, we can additionally organise meetings, training sessions and integration activities here.

The Recreational Student Culture Zone for students of Bialystok University of Technology was implemented using the University’s own funds. The opening on 13 November 2025 was accompanied by a picnic organised by students from tfrom the BUT SSG and the Alumni Association of Bialystok University of Technology.

The opening was held as part of the project “WINGS PB – Support, Integration, Learning, Guarantee of Success with Bialystok University of Technology” (contract number FERS.01.05-IP.08-0017/25-00), implemented under the European Funds for Social Development 2021–2027 Programme, co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus.
