On 5–6 December 2024, Bialystok University of Technology hosted a meeting of participants in the international project: ACROSS – European Cross-Border University, which unites nine partner universities from across Europe. The representatives discussed organisational details ahead of the project’s official launch, scheduled for 1 January 2025. The meeting coincided with the 75th-anniversary celebrations of Bialystok University of Technology.

Members of the ACROSS consortium refined the partnership agreement, which will be signed in March 2025 during a ceremony in Chemnitz. They also established the action plan for the first quarter of 2025 and prepared for upcoming working meetings in January in Perpignan, France, and March in Chemnitz, Germany.

– We are finalising the last organisational details, such as the project management structure and online tools for reporting. These are crucial matters to address now so that we can later fully focus on the project’s substantive goals, – explained Assoc. Prof. Dorota Krawczyk, DSc, PhD, Eng, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, who also serves as the ACROSS project coordinator.

ACROSS as an opportunity for international development

Bialystok University of Technology has been involved in the ACROSS project since 2022. Its scope has significantly expanded thanks to funding from the Erasmus+ programme. The project includes activities such as academic mobility, joint study programmes, courses culminating in micro-credentials, research, and opening laboratories to the partner communities.

– ACROSS opens up new opportunities for us. Through this project, Bialystok University of Technology has gained the status of a European university. Together with our partners, we are creating a space where students and researchers can take advantage of modern infrastructure and work on joint research projects, – emphasised Assoc. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, DSc, PhD, Eng, Rector of the university.

Bialystok University of Technology leads one of the project’s key areas, focusing on the joint educational offerings of ACROSS, which highlights the university’s significant role within the consortium structure.

A jubilee in an international setting

The 75th-anniversary celebrations of Bialystok University of Technology added a special dimension to the meeting. International guests participated in jubilee events, including the decoration of a Christmas tree.

– Celebrating our university’s anniversary, we proudly welcome representatives from the international academic community. ACROSS demonstrates that Bialystok University of Technology is a recognised name on the map of European higher education, – remarked Rector, Assoc. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, DSc, PhD, Eng.

Advancing towards modern education

Supported by €14.4 million in EU funding, the ACROSS project prioritises innovation and internationalisation. Students will benefit from courses offered by partners, either on-site or remotely, while researchers will gain access to the research infrastructure of partner universities. A shared e-learning platform will enable the development of new educational forms, such as lifelong learning.

– ACROSS is not just collaboration between universities; it’s also an opportunity to implement modern solutions in teaching, research, and academic mobility. We are creating a space that will benefit all partners and academic communities, – summarised Assoc. Prof. Dorota Krawczyk, DSc, PhD, Eng, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation.

The ACROSS project brings together nine universities located in the border regions of European countries. The consortium is led by Chemnitz University of Technology in Germany. Additionally, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv in Ukraine participates as an associate partner.
