Bialystok University of Technology, the Medical University of Bialystok, University of Bialystok, the City of Białystok, and the Podlaskie Voivodeship have signed a letter of intent regarding the establishment of a Central Sports Centre in Białystok.

Bialystok University of Technology is one of the signatories of the letter of intent to create the Central Sports Centre in Białystok. The centre aims to improve access to sports infrastructure and help athletes combine their training with education.

– A facility like this could encourage student athletes to stay in Białystok, where they wouldn’t need to seek training opportunities elsewhere, but instead, they could choose our universities, – said Assoc. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, DSc, PhD, Eng, Rector of Bialystok University of Technology. – We are undertaking various initiatives to promote sport, with the academic sports organisation AZS playing a significant role, and we will certainly support efforts to establish the Centre. I’m glad we’re doing this together, as it strengthens our position and increases the likelihood of success.

Professor Marcin Moniuszko, Rector of the Medical University of Bialystok, emphasised that any initiative promoting physical activity is worth supporting and cooperating on.

Assoc. Prof. Tadeusz Truskolaski, PhD, DSc (UwB), President of Białystok, noted that the city’s sports investments align with the plans of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. These include a multi-purpose sports hall and the development of an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

In Białystok and Podlaskie, we specialise in athletics, and I believe it’s a good idea to further develop this field. I think there will be interest in both studying and representing our city, region, and above all, Poland, – Truskolaski said.

The idea of establishing Central Sports Centres originated with the Minister of Sport and Tourism. The Ministry’s project inspired Łukasz Prokorym, Marshal of the Podlaskie Voivodeship, to sign the letter of intent with Białystok’s largest public universities and the City of Białystok.

Immediately after meeting with the minister, I coordinated with the President of Białystok and the authorities of our universities: Bialystok University of Technology, University of Bialystok, and the Medical University, – said Prokorym. – Everyone was very supportive of the project. Hence, the signing of the letter of intent, with the universities and local governments as signatories. I am confident that, with a common goal and willingness to cooperate, we will make this project a reality.

MP Krzysztof Truskolaski highlighted that the Central Sports Centre presents an opportunity for the development of the region, the city, and the universities.

The letter of intent outlines the creation of the Central Sports Centre in Białystok, along with improving access to sports infrastructure, developing sports facilities, and promoting physical activity.
