Cerber Motorsport Shines at Formula Student Poland with Successes in Austria, Hungary, and Czech Republic
27-08-2024The student engineers from Bialystok University of Technology will be competing at the Słomczyn Autodrome against nine other machines, including the only other hybrid race car brought by students from the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague.
The debut of the CMS-09 at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, brought the Bialystok University of Technology team three podium finishes, including in the most demanding dynamic event, endurance. For the first time.
Students from the Faculties of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science presented a hybrid-powered vehicle that earned them top scores in the following dynamic categories: 2nd place in acceleration and endurance, and 3rd place in the skidpad event.
The next competition, held on a Hungarian racetrack, saw the team achieve the highest scores in events where both acceleration and car grip are crucial. The students, who are part of the Auto-Moto-Club Student Research Group, again succeeded in dynamic events. At Formula Student East, they claimed 1st place in the skidpad and 1st place in acceleration.
Cerber Motorsport from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Bialystok University of Technology won the Formula Student Czech Republic competition, held from 5 to 10 August 2024! The international competition on the Czech racetrack featured nearly 50 teams from around the world, representing their universities as designers, engineers, implementers, and drivers of race cars. This year, the Bialystok University of Technology team was unbeatable! Their participation brought victory in three dynamic events and the overall classification. They also received an additional award for the fastest technical inspection of their vehicle.
– We managed to achieve really high rankings in all the series, standing on the podium many times, – says Piotr Cywoniuk, a second-year Master’s student in Mechanical Engineering at Bialystok University of Technology – In the Czech Republic, we took first place in the overall classification. This is undoubtedly a major achievement for our team, something we had never accomplished before!
– This is the result of the hard work of passionate, energetic, patient, consistent, and determined people—the kind that Bialystok University of Technology cultivates, – says Assoc. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, DSc, PhD, Eng, Rector of Bialystok University of Technology. – The team members change, but the passion and determination remain. I want to thank everyone who supports them because success in engineering is usually the result of a large team’s effort.
Piotr Cywoniuk is also the Suspension Department Coordinator in the Cerber Motorsport team.
– We are very satisfied with how the car performs, – says Cywoniuk. – The changes that improved our race car have proven effective on the racetracks.
Before heading to Formula Student Poland, Bialystok University of Technology students tested their CMS-09 race car once again at the Białystok Circuit.
– This year, we focused primarily on implementing the hybrid drive system and modifying the gear-shifting system, – says Kacper Stasiewicz, the team’s Technical Coordinator, Electronics Department Coordinator, one of the drivers, and a second-year Master’s student in Automation and Robotics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Bialystok University of Technology. – We’ll address some of the issues we encountered in previous competitions, and hopefully, we’ll be able to repeat last year’s success by winning the Formula Student competition in Poland.
Stasiewicz reminds us that a 30-person team worked on the design and construction of the race car under the supervision of Piotr Tarasiuk, PhD, Eng, and Jarosław Czaban, PhD, Eng, from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Bialystok University of Technology.
– The experience gained by the Cerber Motorsport team will have a positive impact on our next hybrid-powered race car, – declares Stasiewicz. – We’ll be using an electric drive at the front and an internal combustion engine at the rear. We aim to develop this technology and become pioneers in the Formula Student class.
The overall standings for the Formula Student Poland competition will be announced on Sunday, 1 September 2024, in the late afternoon.
The students from Bialystok University of Technology are supported by the Podlaskie Voivodeship, and for international trips, by the City of Białystok.
