Bialystok University of Technology debuts in THE Impact Rankings

Bialystok University of Technology has made its debut in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, securing 5th place in Poland and a position within the 1001-1500 range globally.

THE Impact Rankings is the only international ranking assessing universities based on their commitment to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by UN member states as part of the “Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” The ranking aims to highlight the significance of university engagement in sustainable development activities and promote institutions whose efforts align with these goals.

In the latest, sixth edition of the ranking, 2152 universities from 125 countries were evaluated, including 25 from Poland. The leader of the 2024 ranking is Western Sydney University. The University of Manchester from the UK and the University of Tasmania from Australia share second place, while Aalborg University in Denmark takes the next position. Among Polish universities in the THE Impact Rankings, the University of Gdansk is the leader, with Bialystok University of Technology ranking fifth.

Bialystok University of Technology applied in five areas for the University Impact Rankings 2024:

  • SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, ranking 601-800 globally out of 2031 universities and 3rd in Poland;
  • SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, ranking 401-600 globally out of 1026 universities and 4th in Poland;
  • SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, ranking 401-600 globally out of 867 universities and 4th in Poland;
  • SDG 15 – Life on Land, ranking 401-600 globally out of 741 universities and 3rd in Poland;
  • SDG 13 – Climate Action, ranking 601-800 globally out of 924 universities and 3rd in Poland.

Bialystok University of Technology achieved its best result in SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, securing 3rd place in Poland among 25 Polish universities applying in this category and a position within the 601-800 range globally out of 2031 universities classified in this goal.

It is noteworthy that the University received the maximum score for the criterion “Publication of SDG report,” thanks to the preparation of the sustainable development report titled „Bialystok University of Technology on the path to sustainable development 2023”.

The recognition of Bialystok University of Technology in the prestigious THE Impact Rankings results from the implementation of the Bialystok University of Technology Development Strategy for 2021-2024, with a perspective for extension to 2030, the Sustainable Development Strategy “My Green University” and the Social Responsibility Strategy of Bialystok University of Technology.

The inclusion of Bialystok University of Technology in its third sustainability ranking is a significant step for our university, acknowledging its commitment to achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. This recognition also serves as motivation for further actions towards sustainable development in the future.
