Reflections on the Success of LIMACON 2024: A Milestone in Advancing Hybrid Materials and Sustainable Technologies
As the organizing committee, we are extremely grateful to all participants, speakers and partners for their commitment and contributions to the conference “Advanced Hybrid Lightweight Materials and Technologies for a Global Closed Cycle Economy” held at Bialystok University of Technology on November 7-8, 2024. The event was a triumph of collaboration, uniting experts and innovators to explore and enhance the role of hybrid materials and technologies in promoting sustainable development and closed-loop economy practices.
We express our deep appreciation to Bialystok University of Technology and the Polish Society for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics for their leadership and vision in organizing this conference. Our collaboration with the National Key Clusters – the Evoluma Industrial Cluster, the Polish Construction Cluster and the Polish Composite Technology Cluster – was instrumental in creating a program that addressed the critical needs of industry and academia.
We would like to express our gratitude to our strategic partners, the Marshal’s Office of the Podlaskie Region and the Via Carpatia Polytechnic Network. Their unwavering support underscores the importance of regional and international cooperation in driving innovation and sustainable development.
We are also grateful to our institutional partners, including ILK TU Dresden, Fraunhofer IKTS, and sponsors such as trójwymiarowi.pl, Balt-Yacht, Shim-pol and Rak-Bud, whose contributions significantly enhanced the quality and scope of our discussions.
The conference included 11 thematic panels and presentations that fostered dialogue on ground-breaking topics such as hydrogen technology, lightweight construction and the use of artificial intelligence in the yacht industry. The discussions highlighted practical applications of materials engineering in sectors as diverse as defense, construction and marine.
The aim of the conference was to promote cooperation between science and industry, with a particular focus on modern composite materials and technologies related to the circular economy. The event covered topics related to the hydrogen industry, composite materials for construction and civil engineering, as well as the use of bio-composites and natural raw materials such as wood.
The participation of experts from Poland, Germany, Lithuania and Sweden enriched the conference with diverse perspectives and best practices. The involvement of local authorities, Horizon project leaders and key national clusters further emphasized the importance of integrated efforts in achieving common goals.
As we conclude this year’s event, we are inspired by the partnerships established and insights gained. These connections will undoubtedly contribute to future advances in materials science, technology transfer and global sustainability.
We look forward to the next edition of LIMACON, where we will continue to explore and innovate for a sustainable future.
Once again, we thank all of our participants, partners and supporters for making this conference an outstanding success. Special appreciation goes to Marshal’s Office of the Podlaskie Region and the Via Carpatia Polytechnic Network for their strategic partnership that established a benchmark for excellence in the integration of science, industry and sustainable development.
