Chinese movie night – screening of the movie ‘The Farewell’

29-04-2024

Last Wednesday (April 24th), we had the great pleasure of hosting the first Chinese movie night for the staff and students of BUT, students of the Academic Secondary School of BUT, and students of the Confucius Classroom at BUT. The movie we decided to screen was a production directed by Lulu Wang – ‘The Farewell’. The film addresses issues such as family bonds, what we are willing to do for our loved ones, and the internal conflicts faced by individuals raised in two different cultures.

The event was officially opened by the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Assoc. Prof. Dorota Anna Krawczyk, DSc, PhD, Eng., and the guests were welcomed by the Head of the Confucius Classroom at BUT, Katarzyna Kuźmicz, PhD. To better introduce the audience to the movie, a presentation on the film was given before the screening.

After the screening, event participants took part in a quiz to test their knowledge about the production, and three people with the highest scores received prizes.

The concluding part of the event was a discussion led by our Chinese teachers, who enriched the commentary on the film with a description of their experiences. Guests had the opportunity to ask questions, thus expanding their knowledge about the customs prevailing in China.

The aim of the event was to introduce the culture and language of China to the community of the Białystok University of Technology. We hope to organize more Chinese movie nights in the future, which, besides being a great way to spend time together, will contribute to spreading knowledge about China.
