Marek Kordos, retired professor at the University of Warsaw; non-Euclidean geometry, history of mathematics; first editor-in-chief (1974-2018) of the monthly magazine ”Delta”, co-founder of the Schools of Illustrative Mathematics; among other books (in polish) ”Foundation of projective and projective-metric geometry”, ”Lectures on the history of mathematics”, ”About the Mathematician, the Knight of the Pythagorean Star”.

 
Lecture: Perspective in mathematics, painting and elsewhere or what Strzemiński says to ”non-artist”
Perspective is a way of looking. And what regularities we notice and what the world presents to us depends on how we look and what we pay attention to. The structure of my speech is based on the revolutionary and revelationary work of Władysław Strzemiński ”The Theory of Vision”. The methodology presented there is applied to other areas of creativity, especialy mathematics.

 

 

prof. Zdzisław Pogoda, PhD

Zdzisław Pogoda, professor at the Jagiellonian University, interested in differential geometry and its applications, history of mathematics, in particular the history of differential geometry and topology (19th-20th centuries), as well as mathematics teaching problems in universities. He is involved in the broadly understood popularization of mathematics.

Author or co-author of 10 books, including three textbooks and over 150 scientific and popular articles. Winner of many awards for popularization, especially the PTM Grand Prize. S. Dickstein (1995), H Steinhaus Prize granted by Polska Fundacja Upowszechniania Nauki (1999) and the Jagiellonian University Rector's H. Kołłątaj Prize. The book "Matematyczna bombonierka" written together with Krzysztof Ciesielski was recognized as the best popular science book of 2016. (Nagroda “Złotej Róży”)

prof. Krzysztof Ciesielski, PhD

Matematyk, profesor Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego (UJ). W latach 1999-2008 wicedyrektor Instytutu Matematyki UJ ds. dydaktycznych.

W pracy badawczej zajmuje się przede wszystkim teorią układów dynamicznych, ale także m.in. matematycznymi aspektami wyborów i historią matematyki.

Autor kilku książek popularyzujących matematykę (głównie napisanych wspólnie ze Zdzisławem Pogodą), niektóre z nich otrzymały prestiżowe nagrody (m.in. Nagrodę im. Hugona Steinhausa Polskiej Fundacji Upowszechniania Nauki za najlepsze książki popularnonaukowe polskiego autora opublikowane w latach 1995-1998, a „Matematyczna Bombonierka” została nagrodzona „Złotą Różą” jako najlepsza książka popularnonaukowa wydana w Polsce w roku 2015/2016).

Przewodniczący Komitetu Redakcyjnego miesięcznika „Delta”, przewodniczący Komitetu Okręgowego Olimpiady Matematycznej w Krakowie, wiceprzewodniczący World Federation of National Mathematics Competitions. W latach 2018-2020 redaktor naczelny czasopisma „Wiadomości Matematyczne”, w latach 2009-2016 członek Raising Public Awareness Committee of the European Mathematical Society.
 
Lecture: Stefan Banach - mathematics, myths, legends and true
Stefan Banach is commonly regarded as the most eminent Polsh mathematician in history. According to historians of science, he is one of
three most recognizable Polish scientsts in the world (the others are Copernicus and Marie Curie). One of the goals of the lecture is to give
the reasons of such admiration. Several popular stories about Banach are diffused, however, many of them, including those described in some books, are not true. Some of those false stories and the truth will be presented.

Lecture: Archimedes: founder of contemporary mathematical analysis
Archimedes from Syracuse (some 287-221 BC) was a Greek mathematician, physicist, astronomer, engineer and inventor.
He was of the most genius and creative minds of the antiquity. At the lecture, two great theorems, known today as the Archimedean principles, will be brought closer. The first one, mathematical, and being in fact a "touch of infinity", says on the displacement of integers within the set of real numbers. The other one, physical, says on the buoyancy in fluid, and is equivalent to the fundamental fact of calculus II: the divergence theorem.

Lecture: Journey to the Center of the Cube
During the lecture we shall explore the interior of the cube. We will check what fits within and see what surprises it holds. To achieve this, we will cut, drill, perforate, flatten, halve and otherwise deform numerous cubes and several other solids.

Senior lecturer at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of Adam Mickiewicz University, teacher conducting academic mathematics classes at the 8th Secondary School. Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań. Co-founder of the Greater Poland Mathematical League. Invited lecturer at many conferences devoted to teaching mathematics and working with talented youth.
 

 

prof. Andrzej Komisarski, Dsc, PhD

prof. Andrzej Komisarski, Dsc, PhD, is the Head of the Department of Probability Theory and Statistics at the University of Lodz.

The main topic of his research changes over time, from dynamical systems and topology (master's thesis awarded the 1st prize in the J. Marcinkiewicz PTM Conntest) through research on the geometry of Banach spaces, in particular projections in these spaces (doctoral dissertation awarded the PTM prize for young mathematicians, and the habilitation dissertation) to the latest results on probability theory and its applications in functional equations and inequalities.

Chairman of the Jury of the Competition for Secondary School Students for the Best Mathematical Research Article (PTM and the "Delta" magazine), chairman of the Regional Committee of the Mathematical Olympiad in Łódź, chairman of the Regional Committee of the Olympiad in Mathematical Linguistics in Łódź. In 2008-2010 he was a member of the Jury of the International Mathematical Olympiad.
