We visited the Kindergarten No. 42 ‘Niezapominajka’ in Białystok

On Monday, we had the opportunity to meet the children of Kindergarten No. 42 ‘Niezapominajka’ in Białystok. Our teachers, Weiwei Zheng, Chunyu Liu and Xinlong Gao, met the pupils from a group called ‘Domek’ (‘Little House’) and introduced them to the history and meaning of the Chinese word 家 (jiā). One of the meaning behind this character is ‘family’ or ‘home’.

Assisted by the teachers, the children practised writing the character, at first using brushes and water and then using coloured pencils. Preschoolers were also tasked with drawing a pig under a roof. The illustration represented the literal meaning of the character consisting of two elements (‘radicals’) – 宀 (mián) and 豕 (shǐ), i.e. ‘roof’ and ‘pig’, respectively.

The meeting wrapped up by learning and singing a song about two tigers (两只老虎, liǎng zhī lǎohǔ) in Chinese. You can find videos of the visit to the kindergarten on our Facebook page.
