Visit to the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology of the University Children’s Clinical Hospital

22-12-2020
Word of thanks for the Confucian Classroom at BUT given by the "Help Them" Foundation
On February 7, 2020, at the invitation of the “Help Them” Foundation, the team of the Confucius Classroom at Bialystok University of Technology visited the patients of the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology of the University Children’s Clinical Hospital.

One of the many activities of the Foundation is caring for children from the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology of the UCCH. After receiving the invitation, BUT CC planned a program of attractions to make little patients time more pleasant.

During the meeting, volunteers, children and their parents tasted fortune-telling rice cakes, learned how to use chopsticks, played with jianzi (Chinese style “hacky sack”), and even checked their Chinese calligraphy skills. They also learned about their Chinese zodiac signs, introduced by the BUT CC lector – Yajie Xu. Each of the children drew their Chinese zodiac sign in a commemorative frame, some of them tried to write the corresponding Chinese characters using a water calligraphy set. 2020 is the year of the rat, so at the end of the meeting, everyone made a paper rat as a symbol of happiness, according to Chinese beliefs.

The smiles that we were able to see on the faces of children will stay in our hearts and memories for a long time. We hope that we have managed to instill in them at least a bit of interest in the Chinese language and culture.

Photos from the meeting can be seen on the Foundation’s Facebook profile.
