Tianjin Chengjian University (TCU), founded in 1978, is a regular university under the administration of Tianjin Municipal government. The city Tianjin is one of four municipalities directly administered by the Central Government of China, located south of and 120 km away from the Capital of Beijing.
 
Disciplines and Faculty
To serve the urbanization and urban modernization of China, TCU has constructed a mutually supportive, coordinately developing disciplinary system, consisting of 7 disciplinary clusters of urban planning, urban construction, urban management, eco-city, smart city, urban economy and urban culture.
TCU consists of 16 schools, 2 departments for basic courses, with over 1000 full-time teachers out of over 1,300 faculty.
 
Programs and Students
TCU provides 56 undergraduate programs in 6 disciplines of engineering, science, management, economics, arts and humanities. As a member of National Excellent Engineer Training Program, TCU offers project-based, skilled oriented ‘trial run’ for engineering students, to broaden their horizons, re-enforce their knowledge foundation, and enhance their capabilities.
TCU offers 14 first-level master programs and 5 professional master programs, including 1 Tianjin first-rate discipline (Civil Engineering), 1 Tianjin first-rate discipline under construction (Environmental Science and Engineering) and 4 Tianjin featured disciplinary clusters and 6 Tianjin key disciplines.
Currently, TCU has nearly 18,000 full-time students, including over 16,000 undergraduates and 1,300 graduates, and 200 international students.
 
Platforms and Research
TCU has set up a series of platforms for scientific research, technological innovation and industrial cooperation, including 4 Tianjin Key Laboratories, 1 National & Local Joint Engineering Research Center of Construction Waste Utilization, 1 Landfill and Soft Soil Engineering Center, 6 Tianjin Engineering Research Centers and a Municipal Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences. Besides, TCU has led 3 Municipal Collaborative Innovation Centers concerning development strategy of urban green development, ecological livability and ecological civilization construction as well as the industrialization and technological innovation in the field of green building.
TCU implements the strategy of ‘Research-driven development’, emphasizing fundamental research and highlighting specialties, which leads to the considerable increase in technological innovation and quality. The significant achievements include over 100 projects respectively sponsored by the National Basic Research (973) Program, the National Key Technologies R&D Program, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China and so on.
 
Global Engagement
TCU sticks to the international engagement and cooperation, and has signed MOU with 41 universities and institutions in 16 countries, and 23 cooperation agreements with 16 foreign universities. Among them, the undergraduate education project for engineering management with VIA University College in Denmark has consecutively conducted enrollments since 2014. The International School of Engineering co-organized by TCU and with Bialystok University of Technology (BUT) and Cracow University of Technology (CUT) has been formally approved by Chinese Ministry of Education in 2019, and there will be bachelor’s and master’s programs of 4 majors, totaling 1,200 students upon completion. TCU has also participated in the construction of Punjab Tianjin University of Technology, with the other two universities of Tianjin. The Joint Research Center for Protective Infrastructure Technology and Environmental Green Bioprocess, jointly established with University of Technology Sydney, Australia, has been in the third batch of international scientific and technological cooperation bases in Tianjin. In 2019, TCU was awarded as the Annual University of International Education Work in Tianjin.
 
Motto and Goal
The motto of TCU is to “Morality and Capability, Learning and Creating”.
The development goal is to become a high level institution featuring urban construction with global perspective.
