Captivating<\/h1>\n

The Panorama of the Battle of Rac\u0142awice<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Panorama of the Battle of Rac\u0142awice<\/strong> is the only painting and at the same time an art gallery of this type in Poland. Located in the centre of Wroc\u0142aw, it is an extraordinary place: a rotunda specially built to present one painting: ‘Panorama of the Battle of Rac\u0142awice’ by Jan Styka and Wojciech Kossak, a work completed in 1894.<\/p>\n

The painting is unique: it is 15 meters high and 114 meters wide, weighs 3.5 tons, and covers an area of \u200b\u200b1,800 m2<\/sup>. It shows the victorious battle under the command of General Tadeusz Ko\u015bciuszko over the Russian army in 1794 during the struggle to preserve Poland’s independence before the final partitions.<\/p>\n

The painting is hung on the wall of a circular gallery, and the viewers move on the platform. The play of lights and other special effects, added cannons, bushes and stones, all create a wonderful three-dimensional effect.<\/p>\n
