Pszczyna<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Pszczyna<\/strong> \u2013 \u2018the pearl of Silesian region\u2019, is commonly known to all Poles from elementary school, as a spelling exception ?<\/p>\n

But it is also home of one of the most precious baronial residences in Poland. Originally it was a castle which, after numerous thorough reconstructions, in the 19th century became a magnificent and beautiful baroque residence.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, the residence was not devastated by the Russian Red Army command which took over the castle in 1945, as they did with many other historical monuments in Poland. That\u2019s why we can admire the original equipment and furnishings from the turn of the 19th<\/sup> and 20th<\/sup> century.<\/p>\n

The most impressive is the Mirror Hall with huge crystal mirrors, where fantastic receptions were once held. In the 18th<\/sup> century the musical setting the receptions was provided by Georg Philipp Telemann himself – one of the most outstanding baroque composers, who was also the court organist in Pszczyna.<\/p>\n

However, the most famous resident of the castle-residence was the beautiful Duchess Daisy, wife of Prince Hans Hochberg. In fact, the Duchess preferred a different castle that belonged to her husband, the one in Ksi\u0105\u017c, and yet the authorities of Pszczyna – to honour her – funded a bench in the city center, near the residence.<\/p>\n
