Young people and teachers from the Elisabeth Gymnasium Halle in Saxony and the Academic High School of Bialystok University of Technology visited the mayor of #Bialystok Tadeusz Truskolaski today ? The German guests’ visit to Bialystok is the result of cooperation between the schools as part of the MINT project co-financed by the Polish-German Youth Cooperation. During their stay in Bialystok, students also visit museums, laboratories and broaden their knowledge of Polish culture, history and customs. The aim of the project is to establish and deepen cooperation between students from schools in both countries.<\/p>\n

Since Monday, 12 June, a delegation of German schoolchildren from the friendly Elizabeth-Gymnasium school in Halle has been visiting the Academic High School of Bialystok University of Technology (ALO PB). This is the first such visit to Podlaskie after the pandemic. On Wednesday, 15 June, the students visited the Marshal’s office, where they were welcomed by Wies\u0142awa Burnos, a member of the Management Board.
\n– Podlaskie Voivodeship is called the \u2018Green Lungs of Poland\u2019 not without reason. On the one hand, it is a region of peace and quiet, floodplains of rivers, virgin forests, where elk, ermine and, above all, the European bison reign supreme in the Bia\u0142owie\u017ca Primeval Forest. On the other hand, it is an agricultural region where healthy, good quality food is produced,\u2019 said Wies\u0142awa Burnos. She also talked about places worth visiting in the Podlaskie Voivodeship.<\/p>\n

The visit is funded by a project of the Polish-German Youth Cooperation. Through such visits, young people get to know each other’s country, its culture, history and customs. The German young people are in Poland on a return visit. Earlier – in March this year – ALO PB students visited Halle, where, among other things, they met with representatives of the local authorities.<\/p>\n

– As part of the project, the young people are working on topics relating to environmental protection, water, soil and air pollution. Its aim is to establish and deepen long-term and fruitful cooperation between students from Polish and German schools,\u2019 explained Artur Ku\u017amicz, tutor of the German delegation and lecturer at the Bia\u0142ystok University of Technology.<\/p>\n

As part of the joint meetings, a uniform methodology for research into pro-environmental issues was developed and the results were compiled. They are published on a website run in three languages: English, German and Polish.<\/p>\n

A series of meetings were held – presentations of the results of chemical research into water, soil and air pollution in Halle, a meeting with the student government, PB students’ scientific circles and a German graduate of two PB courses. Our guests had the opportunity to learn about the fields of study at PB, the scientific and cultural activities of the students and the opportunities for development after studies at PB.<\/p>\n

\nFor more than three years, the Academic High School of the Bialystok University of Technology has had a lively collaboration with the German Elizabeth-Gymnasium in Halle. In the past, students from Poland and Germany have studied soil, air and water pollution. This year, they decided to find out how the growth of wheat is affected by the presence of plant toxins and pollution related to human activities.<\/p>\n
