The programme also addresses the impact of technical solutions on user comfort, building energy performance, and environmental performance throughout the building life cycle.

Students will gain knowledge of current design trends, nearly zero-emission buildings, methods for assessing the thermal quality of building envelopes, energy performance of systems, and carbon footprint evaluation. During seminars and discussion panels, participants will analyse the advantages and limitations of selected solutions, taking into account technical, economic, environmental, social, climatic, and legal aspects.

Laboratory classes will familiarize students with the factors influencing the efficiency of HVAC systems and renewable energy sources, while design workshops will enable them to select optimal solutions for single-family houses with consideration of local climatic conditions.

An important component of the course is teamwork in international and interdisciplinary groups of 3–4 students. Participants will develop not only technical competences, but also creativity, teamwork skills, communication in an international environment, and the ability to conduct comprehensive design analyses.

The course is delivered by academic staff from Poland and partner universities in Italy, Spain, and other European countries. It is designed for students interested in the future of the energy and construction sectors who wish to enhance their competences in sustainable development and gain experience in an international academic environment.

Apply now

Coordinator: Prof. Dorota Anna Krawczyk, Bialystok University of Technology
Deputy coordinator: Beata Biernacka, PhD, Bialystok University of Technology

Lecturers:

Białystok University of Technology, Poland:
Prof. Dorota Anna Krawczyk
Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk
Anna Werner-Juszczuk, PhD
Piotr Rynkowski, PhD
Dorota Gawryluk, PhD
Urszula Joanna Błaszczak, PhD

University of Bolonia, Italy: TBA

University of Florence, Italy: TBA

University of Cordoba, Spain: TBA

University of Valladolid, Spain: TBA

Syllabus:
Syllabus Module 1 (PDF, 377 KB, will open in a new tab)
Syllabus Module 2 (PDF, 314 KB, will open in a new tab)
Syllabus Module 3 (PDF, 392 KB, will open in a new tab)
Syllabus Module 4 (PDF, 400 KB, will open in a new tab)
Syllabus Module 5 (PDF, 374 KB, will open in a new tab)

Learning outcomes: Learning outcomes SPINAKER (PDF, 457 KB, will open in a new tab)

Effective Solutions for Sustainable Buildings in Cities

The course ‘Effective Solutions for Sustainable Buildings in Cities’ aims to familiarise participants with ways to reduce energy consumption and maintain appropriate thermal comfort and indoor air quality.
