The course focuses on modern solutions applied in sustainable buildings, with particular emphasis on building form and envelope design (architecture and materials), energy-efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, renewable energy sources (RES), and energy-efficient lighting. The programme also addresses the impact of technical solutions on user comfort, building energy performance, and environmental performance throughout the building life cycle.<\/p>\n

Students will gain knowledge of current design trends, nearly zero-emission buildings, methods for assessing the thermal quality of building envelopes, energy performance of systems, and carbon footprint evaluation. During seminars and discussion panels, participants will analyse the advantages and limitations of selected solutions, taking into account technical, economic, environmental, social, climatic, and legal aspects.<\/p>\n

Laboratory classes will familiarize students with the factors influencing the efficiency of HVAC systems and renewable energy sources, while design workshops will enable them to select optimal solutions for single-family houses with consideration of local climatic conditions.<\/p>\n

An important component of the course is teamwork in international and interdisciplinary groups of 3\u20134 students. Participants will develop not only technical competences, but also creativity, teamwork skills, communication in an international environment, and the ability to conduct comprehensive design analyses.<\/p>\n

The course is delivered by academic staff from Poland and partner universities in Italy, Spain, and other European countries. It is designed for students interested in the future of the energy and construction sectors who wish to enhance their competences in sustainable development and gain experience in an international academic environment.<\/p>\n

The course ‘Effective Solutions for Sustainable Buildings in Cities’ aims to familiarise participants with ways to reduce energy consumption and maintain appropriate thermal comfort and indoor air quality. Participants will also learn about the city’s blue-green infrastructure and green building solutions, such as green roofs, which help improve the city’s climate.
\nThe course is aimed at first- and second-cycle students (Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Power Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Architecture or related subjects) from Across partner institutions belonging to the European University “Across \u2013 European Cross-Border University”, who are interested in modern solutions for sustainable buildings, HVAC installations and energy sources for low-energy buildings.
\nTo achieve these goals, students will learn about current solutions in sustainable construction during classroom-based teaching.
\nThey will also have the opportunity to choose from a range of daily activities related to effective solutions for sustainable buildings and, more broadly, sustainable cities. Upon completion, they will receive a certificate worth 3 ECTS credits. The programme also includes at least one study visit to a local company, team-building workshops, campus games and cultural visits.<\/p>\n

The course focuses on modern solutions applied in sustainable buildings, with a special emphasises on buildings envelope (form, materials), heating, ventilation and air condition (HVAC) systems and renewable energy sources (RESs). Students will also gain more general picture of how green and blue infrastructure contribute to sustainable development and fight against climate change. The discussion seminar will focus on pros and cons of analysed solutions. They will help students to conduct comprehensive analysis taking into account different aspects: technical, economic ecological, social, climatic or law to choose the best energy effective solution in future. Laboratories will familiarize students with factors influencing efficiency of RESs. During computer classes participants will design HVAC systems using modern professional software. Each year lecturers from various European universities from Poland, Italy, Spain and other countries used to be tutors on ESSB course.<\/p>\n

What is more, students will work in international and interdisciplinary 3-4 person teams to not only learn from teachers but also from each other. Nowadays, creative thinking, language skills and facility to cooperate are indispensable to work on the international labour market.<\/p>\n

Objectives of the Glocal course are: – study and understanding of modern construction techniques and installation systems and technologies, with particular emphasis on the advantages of their use from the point of view of sustainable urban development. – study the possibility of using these techniques in current modernisation construction works in order to make them as sustainable as possible from the point of view of environmental protection. In order to achieve the goals, during face-to-face classes students will learn about the modern and traditional architecture of local Bia\u0142ystok and global of the world, and become familiar with the latest technologies and building installations, including blue-green infrastructure and their impact on contemporary architecture. The discussion seminar will focus on pros and cons of analysed solutions. They will help students to conduct comprehensive analysis taking into account different aspects: technical, economic ecological, social, climatic or law to choose the best energy effective solution in future. Each year lecturers from various European universities from Poland, Italy, Spain and other countries used to be tutors on Glocal course.<\/p>\n
