Krzysztof Czech, PhD, Eng., of Bialystok University of Technology is actively involved in the work of this distinguished body of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), helping to develop key technical reports and strengthen international cooperation in civil engineering.<\/div>\n<div data-pasted=\"true\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div data-pasted=\"true\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p>The plenary meetings of <strong>ISO\/TC 98 \u2018Bases for Design of Structures\u2019<\/strong>, one of the most important technical committees of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), responsible for developing the foundations for structural design and the principles of structural safety and reliability, are drawing to a close in Seoul, South Korea.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Krzysztof Czech, PhD, Eng., of Bialystok University of Technology<\/strong> is participating in the work as Head of the Polish Delegation. The delegation also includes <strong>Professor Jacek Szafran<\/strong> of Lodz University of Technology, Chair of ISO\/TC 98, and <strong>Katarzyna Maciejczyk<\/strong>, Committee Manager of ISO\/TC 98 and ISO\/TC 98\/SC 2 \u2018Reliability of Structures\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Krzysztof Czech, PhD, Eng., is Poland\u2019s sole representative in working group <strong>ISO\/TC 98\/SC 2\/WG 13 \u2018Design Principles of Seismically Isolated Structures\u2019<\/strong>, chaired by <strong>Professor Taiki Saito (Japan)<\/strong>. During this year\u2019s work, the group completed the development of Technical Report <strong>ISO\/TR 21259:2026 \u2018Seismic Design Examples Based on ISO 23618 and Related National Codes and Standards\u2019<\/strong>, which has reached stage 50.00 of the ISO process and has been submitted for further processing.<br \/>\nDuring the meeting, Krzysztof Czech, PhD, Eng., also held a series of discussions with representatives of Japanese universities about opportunities to develop research cooperation between Poland and Japan. One of the possibilities discussed was organising a future study visit to the <strong>University of Tokyo<\/strong> for representatives of the research and business communities of the Podlaskie Voivodeship. The discussions with <strong>Professor Tsuyoshi Takada<\/strong> and <strong>Professor Tatsuya Itoi<\/strong> open up new prospects for international cooperation in civil engineering and structural safety.<br \/>\nThe ISO\/TC 98 plenary meeting provides an important forum for cooperation among experts from many countries around the world who are involved in developing international standards for structural design and the assessment of structural reliability.
