The Podlaskie Voivodeship Board has awarded Bialystok University of Technology over PLN 1 million for 11 grants, including projects involving non-metallic reinforcement, eco-aggregates made from waste materials, drone platforms and innovative food additives. This investment strengthens the role of the University as a key technological partner for companies in the Podlaskie region.<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n

The awarded support amounting to PLN 1,069,651.47<\/strong> comes from the \u2018Science\u2013Business Cooperation\u2019 fund. This success highlights the importance of Bialystok University of Technology<\/strong> as a leader in innovation, whose activities have a direct impact on the development of a modern economy in the region.<\/p>\n

\u2013 For us, this is a valuable opportunity to obtain additional funding for innovative concepts and research conducted at our University<\/em> \u2013 emphasises Assoc. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, DSc, PhD, Eng., Rector of Bialystok University of Technology. \u2013 In this particular competition, it is crucial to have a product with a sufficiently high technology readiness level and to establish genuine cooperation with an economic partner. Many research teams at Bialystok University of Technology cooperate closely with companies, and the fact that the Voivodeship Board supports these activities is a clear signal to us that our work for the benefit of the region is important and needed. This is our mission \u2013 currently, cooperation with the business environment and the regional government directly translates into the quality of scientific research and the educational process.<\/em><\/p>\n

An example of exemplary cooperation with industry is the development of durable and corrosion-resistant next-generation concrete lintels. Bialystok University of Technology has been researching the properties of non-metallic reinforcement for a decade.<\/p>\n

\u2013 We want to convince structural designers that non-metallic reinforcement is the future of concrete structures<\/em> \u2013 says Assoc. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, DSc, PhD, Eng., Rector of Bialystok University of Technology and Head of the Department of Building Structures and Structural Mechanics at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences. In the case of this grant, the partner of Bialystok University of Technology is Prefbet \u015aniadowo.<\/p>\n

\u2013 We plan to use these modern lintels in prefabricated residential blocks, which will significantly increase the speed of construction<\/em> \u2013 explains Julita Krassowska, PhD, Eng., Assistant Professor in the Department of Building Structures and Structural Mechanics at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences, R&D Project Leader. \u2013 Thanks to the use of composite reinforcement, these elements will be lighter, and the construction process will be much faster.<\/em><\/p>\n

The team of researchers also includes Assoc. Prof. Marta Kosior-Kazberuk, DSc, PhD, Eng., as well as Rafa\u0142 Wasilczyk, PhD, Eng. and Marcin Cieluch, MSc Eng.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Our task as a research team is to design the lintels and carry out a full cycle of tests. The outcome is expected to be ready-made product sheets that will enable the immediate implementation of the technology on the market once the project has been completed<\/em> \u2013 explains Julita Krassowska, PhD, Eng. \u2013 Already now, we can see great interest from design offices and construction companies that want to use this solution.<\/em><\/p>\n

All of this will be prepared and tested by the Bialystok University of Technology team in its own laboratories. The value of the grant is PLN 99,734.13.<\/p>\n

The Podlaskie Voivodeship Board highly appreciates the innovative ideas submitted by Bialystok University of Technology to the competition supporting the entrepreneurial discovery process.<\/p>\n

\u2013 This shows how innovative and modern Podlaskie researchers are<\/em> \u2013 says \u0141ukasz Prokorym, Marshal of the Podlaskie Voivodeship. \u2013 I wish you, researchers, that the activities you undertake will have the greatest possible impact on your scientific work, but also contribute to the development of entrepreneurship in our voivodeship.<\/em><\/p>\n

In total, the researchers from Bialystok University of Technology will receive PLN 1,069,651.47 following the decision of the Podlaskie Voivodeship Board.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the Rector of Bialystok University of Technology, the agreement with the Podlaskie Voivodeship was signed by Assoc. Prof. Miros\u0142aw \u015awiercz, DSc, PhD, Eng., Vice-Rector for Development at Bialystok University of Technology. The ceremony was also attended by researchers from Bialystok University of Technology: Julita Krassowska, PhD, Eng., Assistant Professor in the Department of Building Structures and Structural Mechanics, and Krzysztof Granatyr, PhD, Eng., Assistant Professor in the Department of Construction and Landscape Design at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences of Bialystok University of Technology.<\/p>\n

1. Lymphoedema phantom for testing pressotherapy and medical education <\/strong><\/p>\n

The project involves the development of a composite material imitating the biomechanical properties of tissues of a limb affected by lymphoedema and the creation of a functional phantom demonstrator for testing pressotherapy techniques and medical education. The project includes rheological characterisation of the composite, numerical modelling of fluid flow in a porous structure under compression, and validation of the demonstrator under conditions similar to real-life conditions.<\/p>\n

The project involves the refinement and industrial-scale validation of an innovative, low-emission technology for producing high-quality artificial aggregates from waste basalt dust generated during the dedusting process of basalt aggregates.<\/p>\n

The project involves the production of innovative, durable prefabricated concrete lintels with non-metallic reinforcement, made of concrete with a reduced carbon footprint, intended for use in residential, industrial and infrastructure construction. The project involves the development of a complete technological solution covering the material, structure, design, prefabrication and preparation for market implementation, enabling traditional steel-reinforced lintels to be replaced with a more durable, corrosion-resistant and low-emission solution.<\/p>\n

5. Substrate disintegration technology using solid CO2 in agricultural and waste treatment biogas plants <\/strong><\/p>\n

The project involves the development and demonstration of a technology for the pre-treatment (disintegration) of challenging substrates for methane fermentation using solid CO2. The technology is intended for use in agricultural and waste treatment biogas plants, which process organic waste and by-products such as cattle, pig and poultry slurry, slaughterhouse flotates and other waste fractions rich in fats and proteins, as well as substrate mixtures used in co-fermentation.<\/p>\n

The subject of the \u201cFrom Waste to Granulate\u201d project is the development of a method and technology for the utilisation of selected post-industrial and mineral waste for the production of granulated composites\/artificial aggregates with a low carbon footprint, intended for use in construction composites.<\/p>\n

7. Valorisation of waste plant-based raw materials into innovative food products and additives <\/strong><\/p>\n

The aim of the project is to develop and verify a technology for producing food powders and granules from valuable production residues generated during meal preparation (e.g. after juice extraction and the peeling of vegetables and fruit) at the Bialystok-based company Kuchnia Vikinga \u2013 the largest producer of ready-made meals in Poland.<\/p>\n

8. Innovative cement composite with lightweight recycled glass aggregate <\/strong><\/p>\n

The scientific objective is to design and optimise the composition of an innovative cement composite and to investigate the impact of lightweight glass aggregate (obtained using a unique pressureless granulation method) on the structure and properties of the hardened material. The project aims to demonstrate that glass waste can become a valuable raw material improving the properties of concrete while maintaining environmental principles.<\/p>\n

The project responds to the growing need to create healthy, green residential and public spaces where artificial light replaces or supplements natural light.<\/p>\n
